Dr. Rob Hewell: Worship Beyond Nationalism: Practicing the Reign of God
Dr. Rob Hewell is a professor at Ouachita Baptist University where he teaches courses in worship arts, theology, and Christian ministry. He is also a resident fellow and worship professor at B.H. Carroll Theological Institute.
His teaching, writing, and research interests focus on the faithfulness of the church’s worship and worship’s influence on the church’s witness in the world.
In addition to participation in the Ancient-Future Faith Network, Rob is a member of the International Council of Ethnodoxologists.
Worship Beyond Nationalism: Practicing the Reign of God explores faithful worship as a political act by which Christ’s followers declare their allegiance to God in Christ rather than to worldly empires. Through worship that is faithful to the triune God, congregations are enabled to enact the reality of God’s kingdom and to embody the gospel for the glory of God and for the sake of the world.
This is a timely topic, especially for the church in America where religion and politics intermingle freely in spite of the long-vaunted separation of church and state.
Here’s what people are saying…
This is a crucial story to repeat and a brilliant understanding of the result of worship. Thus this is a must book for every worship leader— and every Christ-follower. -Marva Dawn
“Rob Hewell has given the church a jewel in Worship Beyond Nationalism. The book shows its author adept at addressing a central focus of Christian worship, namely, practicing the reign of God. The work stirs appropriate considerations as to how the church worships in context. It is as convicting as it is informative; as cautionary as it is motivating; alarming while at once emboldening faith.”
—Paul Clark, Jr. Worship & Music Ministries Director, Tennessee Baptist Convention
“By means of this clear retelling of the sad story of the Christendom-ing down of the church, Rob Hewell wants to repoliticize worshipers…. This is a crucial story to repeat and a brilliant understanding of the result of worship. Thus this is a must book for every worship leader— and every Christ-follower.”
—Marva Dawn Founder of Christians Equipped for Ministry (C.E.M.)
“Enough sidestepping and polite walking away, enough of silence in the name of differences of opinion and taste, enough simultaneous shouting; Rob Hewell has shown up with the Bible (all of it) in his hand and ‘Jesus is Lord’ (all the time) in his heart and mind. There is clear thinking here; unusual, hopeful, clear thinking.”
