Apply yourself diligently to the reading of the sacred Scriptures. Pay close attention to them, I say. For we who read the things of God need to study them diligently, lest we say or think anything too rashly about them. While studying the things of God diligently…knock at their locked door. Then it will be opened for you by the doorkeeper. (Jesus says, “To him the doorkeeper opens.”) As you dis­cipline yourself to study these things with an unwavering trust in God, seek the true meaning of the Scriptures, which so many have missed. But don’t be satis­fied with knocking and seeking. For prayer is essential for knowing the things of God. The Savior not only said, “Knock, and it shall be opened to you; and seek, and ye shall find,” but also, “Ask, and it shall be given unto you.” My fatherly love to you has made me thus bold; but whether my boldness be good, God will know, and His Christ, and all par­takers of the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ. May you also par­take, and always increase your inher­itance, so that you can say not only, “We are become partakers of Christ,” but also partakers of God.
